July 1844 Revelation to Parley P Pratt

Revelation given to Parley P. Pratt early in the month of July, 1844 on the plains of Illinois during his return to Nauvoo after the Martyrdom of Joseph and Hyrum Smith. Parley had been traveling doing missionary work in the Northeast when he was constrained by the Spirit "a day or two" previous to the Martyrdom to return to Nauvoo. During his return trip while on the Illinois plain, Parley was overcome with anxiety and reflection for the Saints in Nauvoo, and what to tell them, or how to advise and console them. Parley then prayed out loud to the Lord for guidance and received this revelation. (See Autobiography of Parley P. Pratt, 1985 edition, pp. 293-294.)

1. Lift up your head and rejoice; for behold! It is well with my servants Joseph and Hyrum. My servant Joseph still holds the keys of my kingdom in this dispensation, and he shall stand in due time on the earth, in the flesh, and fulfill that to which he is appointed.

2. Go and say unto my people in Nauvoo, that they shall continue to pursue their daily duties and take care of themselves, and make no movement in Church government to reorganize or alter anything until the return of the remainder of the Quorum of the Twelve.

3. But exhort them that they continue to build the House of the Lord which I have commanded them to build in Nauvoo.
